Installation notes and user guide for Undo MediaBank V1.0 ========================================================= The Undo MediaBank program has been designed to undo the catalogueing operation of the MediaBank application. This may be required in instances such as an installation failure due to exceeding the 57000 file limit for Macintosh published volumes on MicroSoft Windows. Manual corrective action can then be taken which should allow the installation of MediaBank to proceed normally. Installation ============ Copy the undo_mb.exe file to a directory of your choice. No specific install program is required, as this is a console application. User guide ========== The Undo MediaBank application may be invoked from the command line as follows ([] brackets indicate optional information): [path]undo_mb [path] is optional as the Undo MediaBank application (undo_mb.exe) may be located in any directory. The user will be prompted for the search path when the program runs. This specifies the directory from which Undo MediaBank should begin its search for MediaBank directories. This must be specified as the full path (eg; D:\source\). The Undo MediaBank program will create a set of windows command scripts which can be executed to perform the required file operations. The program can run these scripts automatically or the user can run them manually. The user will be offered this choice by Undo MediaBank, and on-screen instructions will be given. It is recommended that some of the command files (which will reside in the undo_mb_batch subdirectory) be manually inspected before they are run. The command files can be run manually by running the undo_mb_master.bat file. Exclusions ========== This program is designed ONLY to recover from a failed installation of the MediaBank application. In this state, there will NEVER be subdirectories in any of the "originals" directories created by MediaBank. If the search path on which you intend to use Undo MediaBank does contain subdirectories in the "originals" directories, then you are not using Undo MediaBank in the manner for which it was designed, and these directories will be lost, along with any files they contain. Xconsultants ltd accepts no responsibility for loss of data due to misuse of Undo MediaBank. *** YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. *** Recommendations =============== The Undo MediaBank program will move files and delete directories. As with all operations of this nature, it is highly recommended that you make a backup before running Undo MediaBank. Known limitations ================= Paths must not exceed 260 characters. This is the path length limit on MicroSoft Windows. On a Macintosh the maximum path length may be shorter than this. Site testing ============ The supplied directory "test" contains a directory tree with some example image files. The operation of the Undo MediaBank program may be tested using these directories.
